Nucleation and hysteresis in Ising model: Classical theory versus computer simulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have studied the nucleation in the nearest neighbour ferromagnetic Ising model, in different (d) dimensions, by extensive Monte Carlo simulation using the heat-bath dynamics. The nucleation time (τ) has been studied as a function of the magnetic field (h) for various system sizes in different dimensions (d = 2, 3, 4). The logarithm of the nucleation time is found to be proportional to the power (−(d − 1)) of the magnetic field (h) in d dimensions. The size dependent crossover from coalescence to nucleation regime is observed in all dimensions. The distribution of metastable lifetimes are studied in both the regions. The numerical results are compared and found to be consistent with the classical theoretical predictions. In two dimension, we have also studied the dynamical response to a sinusoidally oscillating magnetic field. The reversal time is studied as a function of the inverse of the coercive field. The applicability of the classical nucleation theory to study the hysteresis and coercivity has been discussed.

The Validity of Classical Nucleation Theory for Ising Models
While the classical nucleation theory (CNT) is widely used to predict the rate of first-order phase transitions, its validity has been questioned due to discrepancies with experiments. We systematically test the individual components of CNT by computer simulations of the Ising models and confirm its fundamental assumptions under a wide range of conditions (h = 0.01-0.13 J, T = 0.44-0.84 Tc in 2...

متن کاملDynamics of Magnetization Reversal in Models of Magnetic Nanoparticles and Ultrathin Films
We discuss numerical and theoretical results for models of magnetization switching in nanoparticles and ultrathin films. The models and computational methods include kinetic Ising and classical Heisenberg models of highly anisotropic magnets which are simulated by dynamic Monte Carlo methods, and micromagnetics models of continuum-spin systems that are studied by finite-temperature Langevin sim...
متن کاملHow to Calculate the Bubble Nucleation Rate in First Order Transitions Non-perturbatively
Electroweak baryogenesis in the Standard Model (or extensions of it) happens on or near the surface of the bubbles which nucleate and subsequently grow during the first order Electroweak phase transition. In this case, it is very difficult to compute the bubble nucleation rate analytically with sufficient accuracy: since the transition is radiatively generated, no classical bubble solution exis...
متن کاملPhase transformation near the classical limit of stability.
Successful theories of phase transformation processes include classical nucleation theory, which envisions a local equilibrium between coexisting phases, and nonequilibrium kinetic cluster theories. Using computer simulations of the magnetization reversal of the Ising model in three different ensembles we make quantitative connections between these physical pictures. We show that the critical n...
